Product Review : Header Generator

Header Generator is a handy tool if you're interested in developing a mini-site, or maybe the masthead for a newsletter. The program is easy to use, and comes with a library of templates, as well as the ability to import your own graphics. Just scroll through the header templates, select one, edit your text (you pick the size, color, and font), and you're done.

I actually used the software to design a header for my own mini-site, and the whole process of scanning the included templates, putting my text on one, testing it on my site, and modifying it a couple of times to get the final version just as I wanted, took me less than an hour.

Really the only complaint I had with the software was the lack of more graphics-intensive header templates. The ones that are provided are certainly not unattractive, but to my eyes many of them appeared rather basic. I haven't had a chance to explore the feature that allows importation of your own graphics, which quite possibly would increase my "favorability rating" of this tool.

If I were launching a brand new product, I'd probably go to one of the "killer covers" services online for both a professionally designed ebook cover and a matching site header. But if all I want is a quick header for a mini-site, Header Generator is the tool I use.
