Product Review : Optilink

Link popularity is becoming increasingly crucial to your search engine rankings, especially at Google, which many consider the most important of the search engines, in terms of the amount of traffic it directly or indirectly controls.

Opti-Link takes the concept of link popularity a step further, however, and concentrates instead on your "link reputation". Increasingly, the search engines are categorizing sites not by what the site owner says about his or her site, but rather by what the text on your pages and the text of your incoming links says about your site. The latter, what the incoming link text says about a site, is the focus of Opti-Link.

This feature-rich program allows you to analyze any web page and determine not only the source of all incoming links, but also the text of those incoming links. The text of those incoming links in turn tells you the "theme" of the site, from the point of view of the search engine spiders.

This can be invaluable if you need to analyze a competitor's site and try to figure out why it ranks high for a particular search term that you want to target. Additionally, you come away with a list of sites which link to the one you're analyzing, so you have a chance to develop a list of potential link partners by looking at who links to your competitors.

Granted, most of what Opti-Link does can be done by hand, but the process would be incredibly time-consuming and tedious. Its closest competitor performs some of the same functions that Opti-Link does, but does not, as far as I know, get into the analysis of incoming link text, which is at the heart of the Opti-Link concept.

Analyzing link text allows you to "reverse engineer" a page based upon its link reputation, in the same way that SEO software "reverse engineers" by analyzing on-page keyword density. Put the two together and your pages should shoot to the top of the search engine rankings.

The one and only feature I found missing in Opti-Link was the fact it did not provide for automatic building of a link directory that you can upload directly to your site. It does provide the needed "whois" information so you can email webmasters asking for a reciprocal link, however.

This is a terrific and unique tool for search engine optimization through link reputation. Since it is also easy to use, it's a "no brainer" purchase when you're ready to get serious about optimizing your links and their significant impact on your search engine rankings.
